The publishing house Les Editions du Plat Pays was created in 1930. Since its beginnings it has maintained the status of a French 'Association'. It publishes and distributes books and magazines with a strong regional flavor. Following a period of steady growth, business, seems to have been stagnating over the last ten years.

Mr. François, 63 years old, its charismatic Director, thinks that change is necessary to improve the company's competitivity and sense of strategy.

Knowledge Acquisition

- Appreciate the problem of strategic change linked to a particular project.

- Apply a systemic approach.

- Appreciate the fundamentals of leadership in the context of change.

Skills Acquisition

- Understand how to analyze change.

- Identify the context of the change situation.

- Draw up the mission and terms of reference of the new organization.

- Be able to formulate recommendations.

- Give a clear account of the new organization.

- Propose an appropriate method of change management.

- Clearly identify the conditions for success and the opposition which can be expected.

- Give a convincing oral presentation of the case and recommendations (this is optional depending on the teaching scenario chosen).

Behavior and Attitude Acquisition

- Understand the need to take into account the responsibilities and limitations of a Director and more generally the cultural issues involved.

- Become aware of the importance of a number of organizational constraints (e.g. the statutes of a French 'Association').

- Be aware of the lack of information in the case description to make a complete analysis and make more precise recommendations.

Duration of the session: 12 hours on 4 sessions or 4 hours with "defence"

- A teaching video presenting the case is available so as to understand better and make more efficient class use of the case study.

- Also a powerpoint debriefing (35 slides). - And a Teaching Aid powerpoint (33 slides).
