Joint ventures within the car industry. Gérard NAULLEAU. Paris : CCMP, 1996.
Being a car fanatic, you follow with great interest the news published by the car manufacturers and it's not been lost on you that during the last years, serveral important announcements have been made:
- Peugeot/Citroën and Fiat have announced the production of the U60 MPV (806, Evasion, Ulysse, Zeta) by Sevelnord, their joint company.
- Volkswagen and Ford have announced their Joint Venture, Autolatina, set up in 1987, and which had emerged as the first Latin American car manufacturer.
- Finally, in December, it was heard through suppliers and sub-contractors that the new VW/Ford alliance, Autoeuropa, set up in Portugal to manufacture the VX62 MPV (Sharan, Galaxy), was facing some difficulties.
Following is a presntation of these three major alliances between car manufacturers. These three alliances are all different in their motives and in their organisations. The purpose of this case study is to reflect on the motives of the parent companies to form JVs and to analyse some of the typical management issues most of the Joint Ventures are faced with.
You will find suggestions to organise your analysis at the end of the file.
